How To Survive A 12-Hour Shift Without Becoming Cruel

You survive a 12-hour shift without becoming cruel by treating your body as equipment: food, water, one sit-down, and a rule that the first person at home is not the boss you could not answer.

BPO, factory, hospital, road. The hours are legal violence. You do not have to pass it down.

What keeps a man human on a long shift?

A real meal, not only coffee. A bathroom you actually use. One person at work you do not perform for. Tiny, ugly, effective.

What do you do with leftover rage?

Walk the last block. Name it: "I am angry at the roster, not at you." If you cannot speak yet, say you need ten minutes. Silence without a warning feels like hate.

When is the job too much?

When you are cruel more days than not, and you have started to like the numbness. That is the alarm. Start the exit while you still have a name.

Frequently asked questions

Is overtime always a trap?
Sometimes it is the rice. Count it. If overtime is the only way the math works forever, the job is a slow theft.

What if I snap anyway?
Repair the same day. Repair is also surviving the shift.
