The Filipino Man Still Living With His Parents At 30

A Filipino man still living with his parents at 30 is not automatically a failure. He fails only if he contributes nothing, hides behind "family," and has no date for a more independent life.

Rent in the city is a monster. Wages are not. Many 30-year-olds are not lazy. They are doing math.

When is staying a wise choice?

When you pay a real share. When you help the house. When you are saving or studying toward a next room of your own. When you are not using Nanay as unpaid staff.

When is staying a hiding place?

When you have income and still ask for baon energy. When every girlfriend is "not yet" because the house is convenient. When you mock men who rent a small studio as if suffering at home is a personality.

What should you build while you are still there?

A number. An exit month, even if it is 18 months away. A skill. A contribution that is visible without a speech. Privacy habits: knock, clean, do not make the living room your barkada bar every night.

Frequently asked questions

Will women respect me?
Some will ask about the plan, not the zip code. A plan is more attractive than a rented condo you cannot keep.

Should I move out to prove something?
Move out when the math and the mission agree. Pride-rent is just another bill with a nicer story.
