Why Rest Is Not Laziness For A Working Man

Rest is not laziness for a working man. It is how he stays usable. Laziness is avoiding the work you can do. Rest is refusing to pretend you are a machine.

We were praised for overtime, for second jobs, for "kaya ko pa." Until the chest tightens or the house becomes afraid of us.

What is real rest?

Sleep. A meal that is not standing up. A day off that is not another sideline. An hour without being useful to anyone. If every pause still has a hustle attached, it is not a pause.

Why do we feel guilty for sitting down?

Because someone in the family still needs something. Because a cousin abroad posts a grind. Because our fathers did not sit. Guilt is not always wisdom. Sometimes it is an inherited panic.

How do you rest without dropping the bills?

Schedule it like a bill. "Sunday 2 to 4, I am off." Tell the house. Protect it the way you protect the due date of rent. A man who is always available is often quietly resentful, and resentment leaks.

Frequently asked questions

What if I have two jobs?
Then rest is smaller and more sacred. Ten honest minutes still beat none. Skip the 2AM scroll first.

Won't people say I am tamad?
Let them. The people who eat because you work do not need you broken. They need you tomorrow.
