When Inuman Is The Only Rest You Have

If inuman is the only rest you have, you do not have rest. You have a pause that often costs money, sleep, and the version of you that your house needs in the morning.

A cold beer after a brutal week is not automatically sin. A life where the only softness is alcohol is a trap with ice.

Why do Filipino men rest this way?

Because it is allowed. Because the barkada is there. Because nobody asks you to be strong for one hour. The street corner says yes. The gym is closed. The house still has problems. So the bottle looks like a door.

When does rest become a problem?

When you cannot skip it. When the 15th feels it. When your wife gets the leftover man, the loud man, or the passed-out man. When morning-you has to apologize for night-you.

What can replace it without sounding holy?

A walk. A cheap film at home. A nap you protect like a meeting. One friend who can sit without a round. Prayer if that is yours. The replacement does not need to be impressive. It needs to be repeatable and sober enough that you still have a Monday.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to quit forever?
Not in this essay. You have to stop using alcohol as the only employee in charge of your peace.

What do I tell the barkada?
"Hindi muna." If they only love you with a bottle, they loved the bottle.
