The OFW Who Comes Home A Stranger

An OFW comes home a stranger when money arrived more often than he did. The way back is not a shopping week. It is slow listening, small routines, and patience with a family that learned to live without his body.

You sent the life. They built a life. Those two lives do not snap together at NAIA.

Why does home feel foreign?

Because the child grew. The wife became the daily manager. The jokes changed. You are still the man from the last vacation. They are the people of the last ordinary Tuesday. Both are true.

What should you not do in the first week?

Do not audit the expenses like a boss who just flew in. Do not buy respect with gadgets. Do not demand the old obedience. You left to feed them. They survived. Start as a guest who wants to become family again.

How do you rebuild?

Ask more than you announce. Share one chore. Keep a bedtime if you can. Tell the truth about how lonely it was without turning it into a contest of who suffered more. Suffering contests destroy reunions.

Frequently asked questions

What if they only seem to want money?
Some of that is habit you funded. Change the habit slowly. Love still needs a number sometimes. It also needs you in the room.

Should I stay for good?
That is a math and a marriage question, not a Facebook question. Decide with the people who will live the decision.
